Visual Inspection

Spectrum uses visual inspection to assess a wide variety of conditions, including component surface anomalies, weld reinforcement damage, mating surface misalignments and indications of leaking.

Prior to inspection, specimens are usually cleaned and illuminated with natural or artificial directional lighting. Equipment such as rigid or flexible fiber optic borescopes, endoscopes, magnifying glasses, magnifying mirrors, or microscopes can be used to assist in the inspection of defects that cannot be detected by the unaided eye.
